Several months back I stumbled upon a whole new world of sewing. Don’t get me wrong I knew of quilting but I had never tired it. It looked so complicated that I decided long ago to stick with clothing. Recently I found Bonnie & Camille and fell head over heels in love with their fabric lines. This led me to also fall in love with the art of quilting. For my first quilt I purchased a patchwork quilt kit from Etsy. I didn’t really know what I was doing so I started with the basics. The kit included precut charm packs of Miss Kate, binding & a gorgeous turquoise backing.
I set out to put it all together. In this patchwork quilt you simply sew the charm squares together creating rows. The rows are then sewn together to create the quilt top.
I should note here that I had a little help arranging my quilt strips.
After I had a nice blended array of strips. I went to work sewing them and finished my quilt top. Now I will tell you that when I begin to learn a new craft I do not learn a little at a time. I like to jump in with both feet. A lot of quilters will send their tops out to long arm quilters and have it quilted professionally. I must admit there are a lot of very talented ladies out there and I do plan to use one or two in the future. However, I thought I would do some simple straight line quilting to finish this one off. Boy, that was a job in and of itself.
I managed to get it wrangled under my machine and quilted it with diagonal lines about 2 inches apart. It’s not perfect but it’s mine.
I cannot express how lovely such a simple patchwork quilt is. We now fight over who gets to lay under it’s soft goodness.
